ST. PATRICK’S FESTIVAL SPEAKS OUT!
Young Voices: Irish Youth in a Borderless Society – benefits and challenges? Monday 15th March An Evening of Big Ideas - What has Ireland done for the World? Tuesday 16th March
March 2010
The Irish are world renowned for our ‘gift of the gab’, never shy in voicing an opinion or two and this year St. `Patrick’s Festival offers two great platforms to exercise these talents! As part of the six-day programme of events the Festival is staging two challenging symposiums:
As part of the St. Patrick’s Festival, in association with the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC).
After its successful introduction last year, Voices is back! A line up of national “thinkers” and “talkers”, including RTE Presenter Kathryn Thomas, will be roped into being part of “An Evening of BIG IDEAS”, “What has Ireland ever done for the World”. An arresting subject that is sure to provide the audience and panel with much fodder for hours of debate and the voicing of strong opinion. This unique opportunity for dialogue takes place on Tuesday, 16th March at 6.30pm, in Tripod, on Harcourt St. Dublin. Everyone is invited to be part of this fascinating and vigorous discussion by registering on The Dubliner magazine’s website at www.thedubliner.ie. A limited number of tickets will be available, so log on early and register for your place.
The ISPCC Youth Symposium takes place on Monday 15th March in The Ark, Temple Bar and is hosted by FM104’s Adrian Kennedy. Two Dublin schools, St. Declan’s College, Cabra and Alexandra College, Milltown, will participate in the debate, “Irish Youth a Borderless World” The schools will act as opposing teams; one school presenting the benefits and opportunities and the other highlighting the challenges and threats of a borderless world, particularly the effects that unlimited access to the world wide web now has on young people.
St. Patrick’s Festival Symposiums are just some of the many thrilling events taking place this year during the six-day national celebration running from Friday 12th until Wednesday 17th March. Celebrating its 15th Anniversary, St Patrick’s Festival promises the very best in street theatre, an explosive fireworks display, traditional and contemporary Irish music, comedy, visual arts, film, dance, a treasure hunt, GaelSpraoi Irish language events, family fun and of course the world’s best St. Patrick’s Festival Parade.
