St. Patrick’s Festival celebrations will take place throughout the Fingal area over the weekend; On Friday 16th, Skerries Goes Green as the town celebrates with a fantastic line-up of events! Trad sessions throughout the day, brush up on your Irish dancing skills at the Céilí, sample culinary delights at the food fair and hear a choral celebration of the life and legacy of St. Patrick at St Patrick’s Church. You can join in one of the many walking tours and or enjoy some children’s theatre. Celebrations will come to a close with the greening of St Patrick’s Island on the evening of the 16th as Skerries illuminate the homeland of St. Patrick.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Balbriggan Goes Green as Irish and International street theatre artists from St. Patrick’s Festival’s programme perform in Balbriggan. Catch, The Foolhardy Three, the fantastic Fanzini Brothers and more.
Events in Skerries – Friday 16th March
12pm In St Patrick’s Footsteps A guided walking tour of Skerries focusing on the history of St Patrick and his first steps in Ireland. Approx 1 hour and suitable for all

3pm – 5pm Outdoor Ceili Traditional Irish Ceili (group dancing) with live music and demonstrations from the Phoenix Performing Arts students. An open air event for all ages in the plaza at St Patrick’s Church

4pm – 7pm Irish Food Fair A Taste of Skerries – with food stalls from the many good food purveyors from the town.

7.30pm – 9pm St Patrick’s Legacy – In Words & Music A celebration in words and music of St Patrick and his legacy, with choirs, soloists, musicians and historians. The illumination of St Patricks Island will be relayed live to the event via video link for all to enjoy. Suitable for all.

9pm The Greening of St Patrick’s Island & Fireworks Display The illumination of the place where St Patrick first set foot in Ireland, and the site of his first monastery – St Patrick’s Island, off the coast of Skerries. The monastic ruins will be illuminated in brilliant green and will remain lit throughout the weekend.
