St. Patrick’s Ciné-Concert is a programme of short silent films inspired by Saint Patrick with live accompaniment from harpist Cormac de Barra and percussionist, whistle and flute player, Éamonn de Barra.
The programme will include a colourful montage of St Patrick’s Festivities from bygone days – pageants, parades and performances in Ireland and from as far afield as New York and Melbourne.
The concert will feature extracts from In the Days of Saint Patrick /Aimsir Phádraig (1920) directed by Norma Whitten, made in Killester and elsewhere in North County Dublin, is a reconstruction of the life of Saint Patrick. It includes a glittering array of miracles, the banishing of the snakes, and an exciting chariot race.
The programme will be accompanied by Cormac de Barra, harpist and Éamonn de Barra percussion, whistle and flute player. Cormac De Barra is a television presenter and harper who has played in traditional arenas with Máire Breatnach, Dervish, Brian Kennedy and Clannad. Éamonn has played and recorded with Damien Dempsey, Sinéad O’Connor and many others and was young traditional musician of the year back in 2001.
