St. Patrick’s Festival with the Welsh Government in Ireland present

SEODA: Gruff Rhys & Richard Egan

SEODA - Treasures from Ireland. A Celtic Collaboration: Ireland, Wales & Scotland.

Join two musical giants Gruff Rhys and Richard Egan as we explore the musical lands of Ireland and Wales at Christ Church Cathedral.

The magnificent medieval surrounds of Christ Church Cathedral will be the backdrop for a special evening of contemporary music with two giants of Welsh and Irish culture as we celebrate the strong cultural links that bind our Celtic nations.

Gruff Rhys

Is best known as the frontman for Welsh psych-pop legends Super Furry Animals, a multifaceted songwriter, with an ambitious and often eccentric approach to pop music. Over the course of his decades-long career, the Welsh musician revolutionised British indie music while incorporating his native language into contemporary music like no one else has managed to.

His solo work includes an album inspired by his collection of miniature toiletries (2011’s Hotel Shampoo) and a multimedia project incorporating an album, book, film and app about the life of Welsh explorer (and distant relative) John Evans.

He has successfully strayed into electropop with side project Neon Neon, with 2018’s Babelsberg, a lush 1970s MOR-style affair that featured the National Orchestra of Wales and his most recent release in late 2019 PANG!

Richard Egan

Has evolved to become one of Ireland’s most exciting and energetic live acts over the years, known for his solo project Jape and for his part in the instrumental rock band The Redneck Manifesto. His music blends meticulously crafted lyrics with upbeat electronic rhythms.

Using an innovative mix of live instruments, hardware samplers and sequencers, Richard creates a sound that encompasses many different styles and spans genres, a sort of gothic pop. He will perform solo as part of a double headline show alongside his peer and contemporary Gruff Rhys for an intimate one-off performance.

Pre-show reception, proudly supported by Hennessy.
