Brighter Futures

Brighter Futures is a youth arts participation project produced by St. Patrick’s Festival, which works with young people to create a pageant for the parade.

The theme for the 2012 St. Patrick’s Festival Parade is HOW? WHAT? WHY?, exploring the wonder and curiosity of science.  Brighter Futures 2012 is directed by performance artist Hugh Brown and designer Sabine Dargent. The pageant will take a playful, whimsical look at the scientific question: “If the earth is spinning why don’t we fall off?”

Brighter Futures participants are currently taking part in weekly workshops run by festival artists which will run over eight weeks from February to March 2012. Workshops will develop the pageant concept with participants and work on creating and rehearsing a performance based the parade theme.

For St. Patrick’s Festival 2012, Brighter Futures will include young people from schools, youth and cultural groups and after-school projects. Participants range in age from 11 to 20 years and come from across Dublin city and from a range of cultural backgrounds.

St. Patrick’s Festival is delighted to be working with St Joseph’s of Cluny Secondary School Killiney, Robert Emmet Community Development Project, Filipino Cultural Group, CDVEC Foundations Project, Swan Youth Services, Voluntary Services International and Polish Weekend School in Dublin for Brighter Futures 2012.

Brighter Futures is a fantastic opportunity for young people to work together on an artistic process and the festival is excited to be working with such a varied and creative group of young people.
