Parade

The world renowned festival parade is the principle event on the festival programme.  Meandering down the 3km route through the heart of Dublin City the parade leaves spectators reveling in the artistry, creativity and musicianship that unfolds before them in an explosion of colour and celebration.

The parade is a culmination of unique ceremonial elements, Irish & international marching bands, homegrown & visiting pageantry and street performance all expertly choreographed in response to an annual theme, with high production and entertainment values at the forefront.

Since its inception the parade has radically transformed from what was largely a procession of commercial vehicles and walking groups to the world class event it is today and is viewed by millions around the world.

In 2011 the festival parade was based on a commissioned short story from acclaimed Irish author, Roddy Doyle, which was enacted by specific professional parade companies, interspersed with moving bands as the ‘page turners’ between the chapters, and preceded by the ceremonial elements.

Pageant sponsorship is identified by branded flying banners carried directly ahead of sponsored pageant in combination with a visible brand presence along the parade route.
