Carry on the exploration of the Abair Series with this free trail, featuring singers from the Gnás series, through the city’s best traditional singing clubs and sessions including The Cobblestone, The Teachers Club and Mc Neills. Kicking off in the Cobblestone on Thursday 14th, The Night Before Larry Got Stretched is a traditional singing session run by a collective of young singers with an emphasis on encouraging singers of all ages to come together to share songs. On Friday 15th head to the Teachers’ Club for An Góilín, a singing club that has been running for over 30 years. Join the session in Mc Neills Pub on Saturday 16th and again on Monday 18th, when Ian Drew and friends will host the final sing song of the festival.
ABAIR is a programme of traditional singing and storytelling events curated by Macdara Yeates, exploring the oral folk traditions of Ireland. Taken from the Irish word meaning ‘to say’ and ‘to sing’, the four-day schedule offers a broad range of intimate, unplugged performances highlighting the richness and beauty of these traditions, still preserved and practiced to the present day.
